LOIM in the media: new Co-Head, MainStreet award, circularity equities milestone
Our firm was active in the media during recent weeks. In this selection of news coverage, we highlight: the appointment of a new LOIM Co-Head, recognition for our Circular Economy equity strategy as it passed the three-year mark, and our business earning the accolade of Best ESG Asset Manager at the 2024 ESG Champions awards.
News and updates
Bettina Ducat (pictured) was announced as Co-Head of LOIM. She will be based in Geneva and will become a Limited Partner of the Group. Bettina will jointly lead LOIM together with Lombard Odier Managing Partner Jean-Pascal Porcherot. Previously, Bettina was CEO of La Financière de l'Echiquier (LFDE) and Deputy CEO in charge of asset management at Primonial Group, where she diversified the business and implemented sustainability-focused strategies. She also managed the buyout of LFDE to la Banque Postale. Before this, Bettina was Global Head of Distribution at AXA Investment Managers.
The LOIM Circular Economy equity strategy became the first vehicle dedicated to the circular economy theme to pass the three-year mark. Citywire notes that the portfolio achieved superior performance among competitors in this space, with second-decile returns of 12.7% in the Equity Ecology peer group over the three-year period. The strategy invests in a vibrant, thematically pure universe of companies identified by a focus on four themes: the circular bioeconomy, resource efficiency, an outcome-orientated economy, and zero waste1.
MainStreet Partners, the London-based ESG partner of investors and distributors, named LOIM Best ESG Asset Manager at its 2024 ESG Champions awards. The awards recognise a select number of funds and asset managers that have excelled within the universe of 7,700 strategies, managed by over 360 Asset Managers, and are available on the MainStreet’s platform ESGeverything.COM. MainStreet Partners stated that LOIM received the award in recognition of its clear commitments to sustainable investing.
Head of Sustainability Research Thomas Hohne-Sparboth, PhD, told Citywire Selector he sees artificial intelligence, the energy transition and treating nature as an asset class as becoming established as key themes to watch. Understanding nature as an asset class means paying attention to an ongoing transition of value chains, he said. In particular, he spoke about how nature has become an increasingly important area of focus for investors, and opportunities are becoming more apparent.
Head of Stewardship Rebeca Coriat was appointed to the Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB), the independent body responsible for developing and setting the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards. The GSSB membership is globally diverse and covers five defined constituency groups: business enterprise, investment institutions, labour organisations, mediating institutions, and civil society. This ensures that the GRI Standards, the world’s most widely used sustainability reporting standards, reflect the needs of a multi-stakeholder audience and are developed in the public good.
Adam Molina was appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) to further strengthen senior leadership team. In his new role at LOIM, Adam will oversee a number of core functions, including trading, IT and operations, fund services, legal and compliance, client servicing and finance. He takes over the COO role from Alexandre Meyer, who was recently appointed managing partner of Lombard Odier Group. Additionally, Aude Dhuivonroux has been appointed Head of LOIM in France. Aude’s most recent role at LOIM was Director of Wholesale Distribution. Prior to this, she was a Director at Allianz Global Investors.
holistiQ Head of Circular Economy Research Felix Philipp, PhD, penned an editorial for Le Temps on the role of reusable packaging in the fight against plastic pollution. Both reuse and refill aim to reduce the amount of packaging that ends up in the bin. By reusing or refilling our packaging, we can reduce the demand for new materials and decrease the environmental impact associated with their production, transport and disposal.
Head of Sustainability Research Thomas Hohne-Sparborth, PhD, shared his reflections on the recent Davos summit in the Business Times. He notes that the world is moving quickly, and perhaps the business community assembled at Davos is struggling to keep up. But in a year where concern over misinformation and societal cohesion are rife, this year’s theme of ‘rebuilding trust’ appears well-chosen.
