LOIM becomes a signatory to the UK Stewardship Code
Lombard Odier Asset Management is part of the first cohort to be approved by the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) as signatories to the new, stricter, and outcomes-based UK Stewardship Code. This provides an independent confirmation to our commitment to high stewardship standards.
Stewardship represents a vital means of protecting and enhancing the long-term value of the assets entrusted to us by our clients, while also serving to achieve measurable impact beyond financial returns. It is through active ownership that we can support best-practice-aligned corporate governance structures, and help companies transition to sustainable business models.
Our stewardship approach focuses on addressing both systemic-level sustainability-related challenges, as well as those that are most financially material to a company’s sector and industry. We have created a framework that allows us to identify key sustainability challenges and risks, which is anchored our view of the transition from WILD to CLIC™. We believe that the transition from a WILD (Wasteful, Idle, Lopsided and Dirty) economy to a Circular, Lean, Inclusive and Clean (CLIC™) model is one of the most important drivers of future return and risk. The CLIC™ model is geared towards leveraging the vast value-creation opportunities that sustainability has to offer, and helps us identify suitable companies for inclusion in our strategies.
The CLIC™ economy is one that puts us on a pathway to a zero-emissions, zero-waste economy, with a footprint contained within our environment’s regenerative capacity, while still driving advances for our growing population. We use the Oxford Martin Principles for Climate-Conscious Investment as the guiding framework for our stewardship to ensure companies have understood and incorporated the required global path towards a net-zero economy in their strategy and practices. Since late 2020, alongside the launch of our Natural Capital strategy, we have also actively engaged on the issue of addressing natural capital and biodiversity factors in companies’ business models, for example by offering input in formulating their own strategy and communication in relation to natural capital.
Stewardship plays a vital role in informing the investment process and enhances the value of clients' assets. Visit our website to find out more and for a copy of our report to the Financial Reporting Council (FRC): Stewardship | Lombard Odier.
