Thematic equities franchise boosted with three strategic hires
Fintech strategy to launch in early 2020
Lombard Odier Investment Managers (“LOIM”) has bolstered its thematic equities franchise with three strategic hires. This new investment team will develop thematic equities strategies, complementing LOIM’s existing range, including Golden Age and World Brands (formerly known as LO Funds – Global Prestige). The new strategies will invest in companies selected for their ability to provide solutions and tools addressing some of the most acute problems facing our world. The first new strategy, in global fintech, will be launched in Q1 2020.
Henk Grootveld, who will lead the team, brings over twenty years’ experience and expertise in thematic investment. Henk is Citywire-AA rated and joins LOIM from Robeco, where he was Head of the Trends Investing Equity team and most recently managed one of the firm’s flagship megatrends funds. Prior to joining Robeco in 2001, Henk worked at Aegon Asset Management and ING Barings.
Henk will be supported by Christian Vondenbusch (CFA) and Jeroen van Oerle (CFA) who also join from Robeco.
Christian is a highly experienced Senior Portfolio Manager with a demonstrated track record in thematic investing with a clear specialization in financials and technology. Christian joined Robeco in 1999, having graduated from the University of Maastricht.
Jeroen was Portfolio Manager of Robeco’s Global FinTech Equities fund since its inception and also worked as a financial trends analyst within the Trends Investing team since 2015. He joined Robeco in 2013. In his new role at LOIM, Jeroen will work closely with Christian and Henk to select those listed stocks, which may benefit from the increasing digitization of the financial sector and that will lower the cost of financial services for all of us.
The team starts on 1st February 2020 and will be based in Rotterdam, where LOIM plans to open an office. They report to Didier Rabattu, Global Head of Equities at LOIM.
Didier Rabattu, Global Head of Equities, says: “Henk, Christian and Jeroen are widely recognised by the industry for their unrivalled expertise and strong track record. The creation of this team represents an important step forward for LOIM’s thematic equities franchise. We are excited to strengthen our existing franchise and offer a new means to capture attractive investment opportunities and returns.”
Following the recent successful partnership with Credit Suisse for the launch of their Responsible Consumer fund, LOIM also plans to develop a number of sustainability focused thematic funds in the near future.
