Time is running out to reduce emission levels and mitigate climate-change risks, but the path to net zero presents significant investment opportunities.
In the first episode of our six-part series on the climate transition Head of Sustainable Investment Research & Strategy Chris Kaminker talks about the forces driving decarbonisation across all sectors and asks whether we are on track to meet the objectives of the 2015 Paris Agreement.
“What [the Paris Agreement] is doing effectively is creating this massive policy push that is turning climate change from an existential risk to society into one of we think the greatest commercial opportunities of our time”, says Kaminker.
Kaminker also explains how various countries have changed in their approach to decarbonisation, what it means to have the US rejoin the Paris Agreement, and the leading role the private sector has taken in the climate transition.
“The most exciting developments are not actually in the policy sphere, they’re in the private sector”, explains Kaminker. “The main reason why companies have put in place so many net-zero targets amongst themselves is because they see the commercial opportunity here.”
